Watershed & Heart ➯ Restaurant Design

Concept:

The concept for this collaboration centers around creating a day and night lounge space, with a focus in anchoring a variety of types of lounge spaces to the existing architecture. The use of monochromatic dots juxtaposed with an overall grayscale space brings color blocking to life. The front of the space functions as a retail and cafe space for Heart Coffee Roasters in the daytime and the back of the space opens up in the evening as a curated cocktail bar for Watershed Distillery.

A SPOT OF COLOR IN A SEA OF GRAY This vignette rendering depicts the monochrome green space and parts of the monochrome yellow space within the overall grayscale space of the Watershed Lounge. The theory that is applied to this concept is that these colored dots, each have a unique lounge experience and creates smaller, more intimate experiences within a larger space. The Lounge space, as opposed to the cafe space, uses colorful dots to denote spaces of high energy and excitement, while the front of the space, which functions as the cafe for Heart Roasters is the opposite. Using grayscale dots to denote areas of focus and calmness in a sea of activity and interaction.

ITALIAN SENSE AND SENSIBILITY:

The choice for the color palette was derived from both brand’s original color palettes (i.e. Watershed Distillery and Heart Roasters), but was embellished with the colors and color blocking for interior spaces found in the Italian Dimore Studio. Inspiration from Italian painter, Atanasio Aoldati, was the inspiration for the space planning, as it draws inspiration from his paintings compositions. The furniture in the Giulia Hotel in the Galleria di Milano inspired furniture selection, a mix of mid-century modern and a contemporary infusion.
